Kristi and Will are two of the most athletic and charismatic people I've had the pleasure of shooting. They were so fun to watch, breaking out into yoga poses on cliffs, and just having an all around great time together. They're both from the East Coast, and I love that this shoot looks like something out of the Hamptons. So organic, fresh, and lively.
They say practice makes perfect. So, I listened. I have been practicing my film skills on anyone who will model for me, and this time, I decided to make it a bit more fun. Since I was leaving San Francisco, I decided to do a session on Baker Beach, and enlisted the help of Juna for some fun floral arrangements. I had a vision of what I wanted the shoot to look like, and with a quick trip to Forever21, my ideas became reality. The trees in the Presidio are really quite spectacular. I think I could shoot in them any day, they provide just the right combination of earthiness and moodiness to a shoot. I figured it would lend well to film photography, and I was right. Thank you to the lovely Leona for modeling. She was a trooper in the frigid weather and even got her feet wet. Jewelry & Apparel: Forever 21

I did shoot a few frames with my digital camera...it really is amazing to see the difference!
I firmly believe that in order to learn something new, you have to be taught by someone who is a master of their craft. I rarely attend workshops because I prefer mentor sessions, one on one sessions, with the photographer of your choice. Most offer them, and if they don't yet, you can definitely ask to be their first! I have done a mentor session with Paul von Rieter in the past, and I swore that the day I got my hands on a Contax 645, I would schedule another session ASAP. That day came rather quickly, and in a matter of days, Paul orchestrated a styled shoot for my first day of shooting with the Contax. Our lovely model, Andrea, is a current bride of Paul's who wanted to start her modeling portfolio, and this came at just the right time! Before this session, I hadn't even opened my Contax because I wanted to make sure that I learned how to do everything correctly from the beginning. Paul sat with me for a bit and went over some basics, but pretty quickly it just became all about shooting. I learn best by seeing and doing, so this was a pretty phenomenal way to educate myself. We all headed out to Paul's secret spot, and raced the sun which was setting quickly. I got to experiment with a few different film types that I hadn't yet tried, and overall, had the time of my life. We used Paul's awesome BMW as a prop when it got dark and played with some dynamic lighting by using his headlights. I just love the rock and roll feel of those shots. I dropped my rolls off at ProPhoto Irvine, where John was already expecting me, and waited anxiously for my scans. I was not disappointed. Thank you to everyone involved, I am totally a film convert now, and cannot wait to keep shooting and experimenting!

Sabrina is a longtime friend of mine, we've known each other since elementary school and played water polo together through middle and high school. She has always been one of the most genuine and charismatic people I've known, and I have loved following her successes through the years. When Sabrina launched her blog, Sample Size 16, she was hoping to share her voice and love for fashion to other plus size girls. She quickly gained a following, and has become quite successful over the last few months. I felt that she deserved some fun lifestyle shots, so we walked around Balboa Island for some inspiration, and were not disappointed by the lovely light and color throughout. Thanks for putting up with all my excitement, Sabrina! You were an amaze-balls model!
